Windsor Lake boating permits suspended for 2026 season
5 May
Summary
- Motorized boating permits are suspended for the 2026 season.
- Low water levels pose navigation hazards and risk damage.
- Non-motorized activities like kayaking are still permitted.

Motorized boating permits for Windsor Lake in Northern Colorado are no longer being issued for the 2026 season. The Town of Windsor announced this suspension, effective immediately, citing significant concerns over critically low water levels. Officials warned that the reduced depth creates navigation hazards.
These low water conditions increase the risk of vessel damage and potential injury to boaters. Furthermore, the diminished water volume amplifies the effects of boat wakes, posing an additional threat to the lake's shoreline and its surrounding ecosystem.
Despite the restrictions on motorized watercraft, Windsor Lake will still accommodate non-motorized activities. Paddleboarding and kayaking are permitted, and the designated swimming area remains open for public use. Equipment rentals will also continue to be available throughout the season.
The town is committed to ongoing monitoring of the lake's water levels. Any changes in conditions that might affect the current permit suspension will be communicated to the public.
