Forest Dept Fills Water Tanks for Thirsty Wildlife
6 Mar
Summary
- Water tanks filled to aid animals during summer.
- Solar power used to pump water from deep wells.
- Forest department works to prevent animal migration.

In anticipation of the summer heat, the forest department in Hosur has undertaken a crucial initiative to fill water tanks within its forest reserves. This measure is designed to provide essential water for the diverse wildlife population, which includes elephants, leopards, tigers, and bison, particularly in the Jawalagiri reserve near Karnataka. With declining water levels in the Thenpennai, Cauvery, and their tributaries due to intense heat, wild animals have been compelled to venture into populated areas. To counter this, officials are employing solar-powered pumps to draw water from deep wells and fill the tanks. Tractors will be deployed throughout the summer to ensure a consistent supply of drinking water within the forest boundaries, thereby discouraging animals from leaving their natural habitats.
