A concerning rise in wildlife deaths has been reported, with nine tigers and 38 elephants perishing between December 2023 and January 2026. The causes behind these fatalities are varied and alarming. For tigers, electrocution from illegal fencing and internal conflicts were cited as reasons. Elephants tragically died due to electrocution and drowning.
In addition to tigers and elephants, a staggering 562 other wild animals also died during the same period. This included leopards, bears, blue bulls, and cheetal. Nandan Van Zoo and Safari in Raipur reported 145 of these deaths, with causes ranging from infighting to heat stroke and pneumonia.
