Summary
- Wichita offers up to $200 in rebates for electric lawn care equipment.
- The program aims to reduce ground-level ozone pollution from gas tools.
- Rebates cover new mowers, trimmers, blowers, and more through 2026.

The city of Wichita has introduced a new rebate program to incentivize the adoption of electric lawn care equipment. Effective March 1, 2026, residents can receive rebates of up to $100 per eligible electric or battery-powered lawn tool, with a maximum of two items per household. This initiative seeks to decrease emissions from gas-powered lawn equipment, identified as a contributor to ground-level ozone pollution.
Gas-powered lawn equipment significantly contributes to air pollution, with one hour of mowing producing emissions equivalent to driving a car 45 miles, according to the EPA. Nationally, this equipment accounts for about 43 percent of VOC emissions from all lawn and garden equipment. The program encourages residents to recycle old gas-powered tools to qualify for rebates on new, eco-friendly alternatives.
The program is available until December 31, 2026, or until funds last. Eligible items include new mowers, edgers, string trimmers, hedge trimmers, and leaf blowers that are exclusively non-combustion powered. To apply, residents must provide proof of purchase and evidence of recycling their old equipment. Payments are issued by check and may take up to four weeks to arrive.
