Brickworks Expansion Faces 30 Conditions
27 Feb
Summary
- Plant seeks to triple processing capacity to 614,000 tonnes annually.
- Approval is conditional, with 30 specific requirements outlined.
- Concerns raised by neighbors regarding dust pollution persist.

A recycling plant operating at the former Saxon Brickworks in Whittlesey, near Peterborough, has proposed a substantial increase in its processing capacity. The application seeks to elevate the annual handling of construction and demolition (C&D) waste and incinerator bottom ash (IBA) from 250,000 tonnes to 614,000 tonnes.
Cambridgeshire County Council's Planning Committee is scheduled to consider the proposal on March 4. While recommended for approval, the expansion is contingent upon 30 specific conditions. These include restrictions on waste types, mandatory CCTV monitoring of vehicle movements, noise level limits for machinery, and a cap on daily heavy vehicle movements to 332.
Local residents have previously reported issues with dust, leading to concerns about air quality. The site is overseen by multiple agencies, including Cambridgeshire County Council for waste planning and public health, Fenland District Council for environmental health, and the Environment Agency for environmental permits.
