Locals Outraged: 'Scum' Leave Beach Strewn with Trash
28 May
Summary
- Dozens of beachgoers left Weymouth Beach littered with trash.
- Volunteers found seven dirty nappies and over 10 bags of rubbish.
- The bank holiday heatwave saw temperatures soar to 35C.

Locals have expressed fury after Weymouth Beach was left covered in rubbish following the recent bank holiday weekend. Thousands of visitors flocked to the Dorset coastline amid soaring temperatures, which reached 35C in some parts of the UK.
However, the celebrations left behind mountains of litter, including empty alcohol cans, deflated inflatables, and discarded toys. Volunteers from the Weymouth & Portland Marine Litter Project described their disgust at the scene, finding over 10 bags of waste and a record seven dirty nappies.
The conservation group highlighted that much of the trash was below the high tide line, posing a risk of entering the sea. They questioned why people found it too difficult to use the available bins or take their rubbish home.
The incident has drawn strong criticism online, with many labeling the litterers as 'bone idle' and expressing disappointment with the state of public spaces. This follows a bank holiday weekend that also saw record-breaking temperatures across the UK.
