Throughout March, the West Midlands is offering a series of free events designed to bring communities closer to nature and each other. These initiatives are made possible by £30,000 from West Midlands Mayor Richard Parker's Nature Call to Action Campaign, distributed among 13 community groups.
In Coventry, The People's Patch is establishing a community orchard, while John White Community Centre is enhancing its food-growing areas. Both sites will host wellbeing walks and gardening sessions on specific dates in March. The People's Patch also invites volunteers for orchard planting on Thursdays.
Wolverhampton's Whitmore Reans is featuring six "wild workshops" at Gatis Community Space, focusing on habitat improvement and planting. Similarly, Warley Woods Community Trust in Smethwick is introducing new tree and plant species, seeking volunteers for planting activities on March 20 and 21.
Further opportunities include river surveys on the Stour near Stourbridge and Lye on March 16 and 21, organized by the Severn Rivers Trust. In Walsall, Lifegate Outreach Centre is providing horticulture training and organizing a park clean-up on March 28.
