In West Champaran, the forest department has taken action by filing an FIR against twenty individuals, both identified and unidentified, for the unauthorized felling of numerous green trees. This incident occurred during routine cleaning operations along the Don Canal near Bhawal village in Ramnagar block.
Forest officials were alerted by villagers who reported the large-scale tree cutting. Upon arrival, the perpetrators fled, but an investigation led to the identification of several individuals. The FIR was registered based on a complaint by a forest officer, ensuring that those responsible will face legal consequences for damaging vital forest resources.
This act is considered a serious offense as it destroys wildlife habitats essential for tigers and other animals, particularly within areas designated as tiger reserves or wildlife sanctuaries. The department is promoting tree plantation under the Jal Jeevan Hariyali Mission and appeals for public support in safeguarding existing trees.
