14 Jan
Summary
- Two wind farms off Wales' coast secured UK funding.
- Erebus floating wind farm to become Wales' first.
- Development expected to create up to 7,000 jobs.

Significant UK government funding has been allocated to two wind farm projects off the coast of Wales, signaling a major boost for the nation's renewable energy sector. These initiatives are poised to generate substantial employment opportunities, with projections indicating up to 7,000 new jobs over the next decade.
The Erebus wind farm, planned for the Celtic Sea off Pembrokeshire, will be Wales' inaugural floating offshore wind installation. This innovative technology allows turbines to be situated further out at sea, utilizing stronger winds and enabling land-based manufacturing and maintenance. The Celtic Sea aims to become a prominent center for floating offshore wind energy, with substantial development planned by the mid-2030s.
In addition to Erebus, the Awel y Mor project, a more traditional offshore wind farm, has also received funding for its development off the north Wales coast. This dual investment underscores a strong commitment to clean energy and is expected to secure Wales' energy supply while creating well-paid, highly-skilled jobs for the future.
