Summary
- 25 vultures died, and 5 were found unconscious in Dudhwa buffer zone.
- Vultures likely died after consuming poisoned dog carcasses.
- Investigation underway by Indian Veterinary Research Institute.

Authorities in the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve are seeking assistance from the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) in Bareilly to determine the cause of death for 25 vultures. The carcasses were discovered on Tuesday in an agricultural field within the Bhira range of the Dudhwa buffer zone.
Officials reported that five additional vultures were found in an unconscious state and received immediate treatment before being released. The discovery of dog carcasses in the same vicinity has led to the primary suspicion that the vultures succumbed after feeding on them.
A panel of veterinary doctors conducted post-mortems on 23 of the birds. Samples, including viscera, from these birds and two whole carcasses were sent to IVRI for further analysis. While the post-mortems indicated poisoning from the dog carcasses, the specific nature of the poison remains undetermined.
