Vinnie Jones' Owl Nest Plan Faces Backlash

Actor and ex-Premier League player Vinnie Jones is facing opposition to his plans for a country sports retreat at his West Sussex estate. The proposal to transform farm buildings into accommodation for shooting events has drawn criticism from wildlife experts and local residents.

Wildlife officials are concerned that the development would disturb nesting barn owls, a protected species, during both construction and year-round occupation. These concerns are rooted in the protection afforded to barn owls under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, making it illegal to harm their nests while in use.

While Jones' representatives argue that mitigation measures are adequate and based on expert advice, conservation officers maintain their objections. The South Downs National Park Authority is expected to make a decision on the plans in due course, with the fate of the retreat hanging in the balance.
