Summary
- Materials from road project donated to support veteran wellbeing center.
- Sandbags, hardcore, and topsoil created garden path and rockery.
- Garden designed to be a serene and welcoming space for veterans.

A new garden at The Veterans Cottage in Corby has been brought to life thanks to donations from a National Highways road project. The A14 Nene Viaduct maintenance scheme team provided 250 sandbags, five tonnes of hardcore, and 2.4 tonnes of topsoil.
These materials were essential in constructing a path and foundations for a monument and rockery within the garden. The aim was to create a serene and welcoming space for veterans and their families to meet and reflect.
Garden designer Garry Wall expressed immense gratitude for the support, stating the charity could not have achieved this without the donations. The enhanced garden now features seating areas, fragrance, and color, making it a truly relaxing environment. National Highways project manager Simon Wagstaff noted the team aimed to leave a positive community impact.
Catherine Slevin, founder of The Veterans Cottage, highlighted how the generous donation transformed the garden into a welcoming place for veterans, serving personnel, and their families to connect. The A14 Nene Viaduct scheme concluded this year, having replaced old bridge joints.
