Veli Beach Aims for Prestigious Blue Flag Status

Veli beach in Thiruvananthapuram is embarking on a journey to attain the esteemed international Blue Flag certification, a globally recognized eco-label. The district administration convened a review meeting to devise a comprehensive strategy for meeting the rigorous standards required for this certification. This effort is part of a larger vision to position Veli as a premier tourism destination.

The Blue Flag certification, awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), necessitates adherence to 33 stringent criteria. These include maintaining excellent bathing water quality, robust environmental management, comprehensive safety measures, accessibility for all visitors, and effective waste management systems. The administration is committed to developing a time-bound action plan to address any existing gaps.

This initiative also aligns with the ongoing development of Veli Tourist Village, known for its scenic beauty where Veli Lake meets the Arabian Sea. The area already boasts significant tourism infrastructure and recreational facilities. Funds have been sanctioned for further infrastructure development, including projects like the Art Cafe and Urban Wetland Nature Park, enhancing Veli's appeal as a broad tourism hub.
