An adult male tiger, found in a critically injured condition in the Phato range of Uttarakhand's Terai West forest division, died while undergoing treatment at a rescue center within Corbett National Park. The tiger had been rescued a few days prior and immediately shifted to the Dhela range rescue center for intensive care.
Wildlife veterinarians had been providing round-the-clock observation and treatment since its arrival due to its extremely serious condition. A postmortem examination was conducted on Wednesday by a panel of veterinarians at the Dhela rescue center, adhering to the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) guidelines.
Biological samples were collected during the postmortem to facilitate further detailed examination at the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) in Bareilly and the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) in Dehradun. The precise findings regarding the tiger's condition and the ultimate cause of its death are pending the results of these analyses.
Following the completion of all necessary procedures, the tiger's carcass was cremated and disposed of in compliance with the NTCA's directives. The exact cause of death is expected to be clarified once the sample analysis is complete.
