Uttar Pradesh Launches 'Gopal Van' Initiative to Boost Green Cover Across State

The Uttar Pradesh government is set to launch the 'Gopal Van' initiative on July 27 in Mathura as part of its statewide green push. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the event to be celebrated as a public festival, with the participation of cowherds, saints, schoolchildren, and local leaders.
The launch will take place at the Brahmarshi Deoraha Baba Gaushala in Ral, Chhathithra, Govardhan Road, Mathura. Fodder plants will be planted, followed by a seminar on "Promotion of Forests in Gaushalas," involving schoolchildren. Similar Gopal Vans will be established in other districts during the monsoon season.
Currently, Uttar Pradesh has 7,608 cow shelters, including 6,613 temporary shelters in rural areas, 387 large centers, 305 Kanji Houses, and 303 Kanha shelters in urban regions. The state government plans to develop Gopal Vans at all these locations, accompanied by year-round plantation drives and preservation efforts. Private cowherds have also been encouraged to participate by planting saplings within their gaushalas.
The Gopal Van initiative aims to honor the legacy of Lord Shri Krishna, who is revered as Gopal for his deep care for cows. The Mathura Forest Division, the land of Gopal, has been entrusted with hosting the state-level Gopal Van event, which promises to be a grand celebration of the state's commitment to environmental conservation.
