15 May
Summary
- Former slum site earmarked for a major urban forest development.
- Initiative aligns with the Centre's Nagar Van scheme for urban greenery.
- Project includes walking trails, maze garden, and bird habitats.

A former slum site, Colony No. 4, near Industrial Area Phase 1, is slated for a major ecological transformation into an urban forest. This initiative is part of the broader 'city forests' concept, designed for both ecological benefits and public utility.
The project aligns with the Centre's Nagar Van scheme, aiming to establish green lungs within urban areas and promote biodiversity conservation. The reclaimed 65 acres, originally belonging to the forest department, will be developed beyond simple plantation.
Plans detail a multifunctional green space featuring walking and cycle trails, elevated pathways, and dedicated bird habitats. Multiple water bodies, including two large ponds, are also planned. A unique maze garden is designed as an interactive attraction for visitors.
The development includes specific areas for bird watching, a bird water zone, and a bird-watching tower, highlighting a strong focus on avian conservation. An open-air theatre is also included for public events and community engagement activities.
