Summary
- Over 1,500 homes lost power in Cornwall due to Storm Austen and Boelo.
- Stormy weather grounded flights and closed a railway line.
- New initiative offers opportunities to young people in Cornwall.
Two storms, Austen and Boelo, recently struck the South West of the UK, causing significant power outages and travel disruptions. In Cornwall, more than 1,500 homes were left without electricity following the storms. Repair teams worked through challenging conditions to restore power. The adverse weather also impacted transportation services, leading to flight cancellations and the closure of the railway line between Exeter and Okehampton due to a fallen tree.
In parallel, a new initiative is being launched in Cornwall to provide young people with access to valuable experiences and opportunities. This program, supported by the Lord Lieutenant Fund at Young and Talented Cornwall, aims to enhance their confidence and expand their prospects. It builds on the success of a pilot scheme called Catalyst, which connected young individuals with professionals to create personalized opportunities based on their talents and ambitions.
