UK Spring Warm-Up: 18C Heat Expected This Week
4 Mar
Summary
- Spring temperatures are set to reach 18C in the UK, continuing a warm start.
- This winter was the wettest on record for Cornwall, Leicestershire, and West Midlands.
- Forecasters predict Thursday could be hotter than last week's 18.7C high.

Sunny skies and highs of 18C are anticipated across parts of the UK as the warm start to spring continues this week. High pressure is building, with temperatures expected to reach 15C on Wednesday and 18C in southern areas on Thursday. This follows a week where temperatures already hit 18.7C in Kew Gardens, marking the hottest day of the year so far.
However, the Met Office has also revealed that this past winter was the wettest on record for Cornwall, Leicestershire, and the West Midlands. Provisional figures indicate that Dorset and Warwickshire experienced their second wettest winter since records began in 1836.
The pleasant spring weather is predicted to be followed by a slight temperature drop. By Friday, highs are expected to be around 12C in London and 9C in Manchester. The Met Office has also issued a warning regarding potential dense fog patches, which could reduce visibility to 100 metres or less.
Looking ahead to the weekend, much of the UK is expected to remain dry and bright, particularly in the north on Friday and Saturday. However, cloudy conditions with some rain are anticipated, especially in the south on Friday and the west on Sunday.
