Trichy is set to significantly upgrade its wastewater management with the upcoming commissioning of a new 100 MLD sewage treatment plant in Panjapur by December 2026. Mayor Mu Anbalagan recently inspected the crucial pipeline-linking work, which will reroute sewage from the old, now at full capacity, 58 MLD plant to the state-of-the-art new facility.
Approximately 500 meters of pipeline will be installed, accompanied by a precast bridge, to ensure a seamless transition. Collection wells are also under construction at the new site. This expansion is part of broader Urban Drainage Project (UGD) phases II and III, with several major pumping stations set to directly supply the new plant.
The mayor emphasized the smooth progress of the new STP construction and directed officials to accelerate house service connections under phases II and III. This initiative is crucial not only for effective wastewater management but also for generating additional revenue for the corporation.
