Eco-zone Shattered: Trees Cleared for Film Shoots
21 Feb
Summary
- NGO Vanashakti reported tree destruction in an eco-sensitive zone.
- Two acres of vegetation cleared for film shoot sheds construction.
- Authorities confirmed tree destruction and notified BMC.

An environmental NGO, Vanashakti, has raised concerns about significant tree destruction within the Royal Palms township in Goregaon East. The NGO filed complaints with state authorities, including the forest department and the BMC, citing the clearing of vegetation over a two-acre area. This land is reportedly an eco-sensitive zone (ESZ) adjacent to the Sanjay Gandhi National Park.
Construction of large sheds for film shoots has been initiated without necessary permissions from the ESZ monitoring committee and civic bodies. Following a complaint, an inspection team confirmed the destruction of trees. The BMC has been alerted to the situation. Vanashakti expresses that this activity has negatively impacted local biodiversity and wildlife for several months.
