6 Oct
Summary
- Leopard spotted on second floor of hotel in Bandung, West Java
- Firefighters and conservation agency called to capture the animal
- Leopard currently under observation at a conservation facility

On Monday, a leopard was captured after it wandered into a hotel complex in Bandung, the capital of West Java, Indonesia. The incident caused panic among guests at the hotel, located in one of the country's most popular holiday destinations.
The big cat was spotted outside a guest room on the second floor of the hotel. Hotel management immediately alerted firefighters, who then contacted the local conservation agency about the sighting. Authorities used a tranquilizer to subdue the leopard, which was then removed from the hotel around 10 am local time.
The captured leopard is currently under observation at a conservation facility. Officials are still working to determine whether this is the same animal that was reported to have escaped from a nearby zoo just a few months ago, in late August.

Indonesia has seen other incidents involving escaped zoo animals in recent years. In 2021, two Bengal tigers escaped from a zoo in Singkawang, West Kalimantan, after heavy rain created a hole near their enclosure. One tiger was shot dead, while the other was captured alive.
