- CSR initiative by Kauvery Hospital and Rotary District 3000.
Tiruchi Corporation is actively developing Miyawaki mini-forests across the city to address urban heat and air quality concerns. One such project at Akilandeswari Nagar has transformed a 2,023 square meter park into a dense forest with 5,000 native saplings, including neem and jamun.
This initiative is powered by a Corporate Social Responsibility partnership, with Kauvery Hospital and Rotary District 3000 providing the saplings. Drip irrigation and protective fencing ensure the plants' healthy development, with maintenance managed by the Corporation and volunteers.
The Miyawaki technique significantly accelerates tree growth, enabling forest development in a fraction of the usual time. Commissioner N. Ponmani highlighted plans for expanded plantations, identifying new sites and exploring various public lands for this purpose.
For these environmental efforts, the civic body has allocated ₹15 crore from its General Fund in its 2026-27 budget, earmarking ₹1.50 crore for each Miyawaki forest. This demonstrates a substantial commitment to green urban development.
