Bhogi Blitz: Tiruchi Collects Tons of Waste, Fights Pollution

To promote a smoke-free Bhogi and combat air pollution, Tiruchi Corporation organized a significant dry waste collection drive. Between January 12 and 14, the corporation deployed temporary collection points and light commercial vehicles for door-to-door pickup across all five zones. This initiative successfully diverted 27.18 tonnes of dry waste from being burned.

The special drive saw residents contributing old clothes, mattresses, pillows, blankets, tyres, and plastics. Notably, approximately 12.21 tonnes of this collected material were identified as recyclable. Zone I led the collection efforts, gathering 4.85 tonnes of waste, demonstrating strong community participation.

Officials confirmed that the segregated waste will be sent to recycling units and cement factories for safe processing and disposal. This environmentally conscious effort highlights the city's commitment to reducing pollution during festivals and managing waste effectively through dedicated collection programs.
