Tiruchi Cleans Up for Smoke-Free Bhogi

In preparation for the Bhogi festival, the Tiruchi Corporation has set up temporary dry waste collection points in all five zones of the city. These designated spots aim to facilitate proper waste disposal and promote smoke-free celebrations.
Residents are urged to deposit recyclable materials such as old clothes, furniture, and plastic items at these collection centers instead of burning them. The civic body has deployed vehicles for door-to-door collection and engaged sanitation workers for a special drive continuing until January 14.
A three-day special cleaning drive, involving officials, volunteers, and students, commenced on Monday across key public places. Awareness campaigns are also being conducted to discourage waste burning and highlight the importance of air quality protection.
