Tiger Scare: Tourists Swarm Animal in Tadoba Reserve
17 Mar
Summary
- Tourists exited vehicles to film a tiger on a public road.
- Forest offense registered against onlookers by TATR management.
- Authorities warn of vehicle seizure and legal proceedings for offenders.
An alarming incident unfolded on the Moharli-Padmapur road within the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) recently, where a crowd of onlookers exited their vehicles to approach a tiger. The sub-adult cub, belonging to tigress Chhoti Madhu, was attempting to cross the road when motorists stopped to capture photos and videos, moving dangerously close to the animal.
Following the widespread circulation of a viral video depicting the event, TATR management has registered a forest offense under wildlife protection laws. Investigations are underway to identify all individuals involved in the reckless behavior. Authorities have stated that vehicles obstructing wildlife movement may be seized, and those seen stepping out to pursue the tiger will face legal proceedings.
Prabhu Nath Shukla, TATR's field director, confirmed the incident occurred on a public road, not within a safari zone, highlighting that wildlife frequently uses the forest on both sides for movement. He urged motorists to remain inside their vehicles, adhere to safety rules, and avoid disturbing wildlife or endangering lives to prevent potential conflicts and ensure the safety of both humans and animals.
