The Kerala government has announced a comprehensive, long-term development plan for the Thiruvallom Parasurama Swamy Temple and its sacred bali ghats. This initiative is designed to enhance the site as part of a broader pilgrim tourism strategy.
The redevelopment will encompass the temple itself, the riverfront ghats where devotees perform rituals, and the bali mandapams. Minister K. Muraleedharan stated that the government intends to expedite these works, requiring coordinated efforts from central and state authorities, as well as the city corporation.
Recalling past amenities, the minister noted that facilities for bathing and immersing ashes had diminished over the years. A permanent maintenance system will replace seasonal cleaning. Precautionary measures against communicable diseases will also be implemented during the Karkidaka Vavu Bali rituals, scheduled for August 12. This year, 11 bali mandapams are arranged for the devotees.
Further enhancements include the provision of bio-toilets and shower facilities. Access to the temple will be improved with resurfaced roads, and parking arrangements will be made at a nearby ground and school to manage the expected influx of pilgrims.
