A 17-year-old photographer has been awarded the top prize in the Norfolk Wildlife Trust's annual photography competition. Maksym Breus dedicated three years and over 200 hours to capture a "dream shot" of a hobby bird poised to strike a dragonfly over water. His image, celebrated for its patience and depiction of animal behavior, was chosen from over 1,200 entries.
The winning photograph will be featured in the trust's 2027 calendar, alongside 11 other winning images. The competition saw submissions from photographers aged 16 to 69, showcasing Norfolk's diverse wildlife. Other winners included 16-year-old Tia Pardon for her image of a little egret and Clifford Wicker for a damselfly photo taken on a mobile phone.
An exhibition of the winning and highly commended photographs will be held at the NWT's Cley Marshes centre throughout October. The trust's Nature Photography Competition is set to open for new entries next spring, encouraging continued engagement with local wildlife photography.
