Tamil Nadu CM Pushes for Rainwater Harvesting and Sanitation in Local Communities

On October 9th, 2025, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin addressed a webinar attended by around 10,000 representatives of local bodies. During the meeting, he dedicated a significant portion of his speech to discussing the pressing issues of water scarcity, sanitation, and environmental protection.

The Chief Minister stressed the importance of rainwater harvesting, stating that it is crucial for replenishing groundwater levels and ensuring long-term water security for villages. He also drew attention to the impact of climate change, noting that the state is not receiving adequate rainfall at the right time.

Additionally, Mr. Stalin emphasized the need for improved waste management, reduced plastic use, and disease prevention measures. He urged the local representatives to educate the public and create awareness on these issues, as he believes that addressing small matters can lead to significant benefits for public health and the environment.

The Chief Minister also advised the local body representatives to prepare for the upcoming monsoon season, ensuring that basic services such as water supply and electricity are not affected. He called for the formation of committees comprising social groups and local residents to plan in advance for the rainy season, which he believes will help reduce disasters.

Stressing the importance of transparency in financial transactions and the management of local bodies, Mr. Stalin assured the representatives that their suggestions from the meeting would be considered and implemented.
