Fresh to strong and gusty northwesterly winds are expected to develop on Saturday morning. Combined with dry and unseasonably warm conditions, these winds are predicted to elevate fire risks significantly across the city. Fire bans are enacted by authorities during such hot, dry, and windy periods to mitigate the risk of fires breaking out.

This extreme weather event follows Sydney's warmest winter on record in 167 years. Restrictions under the fire ban mean no open fires are permitted. However, electric barbecues are allowed, and gas barbecues have specific usage conditions for responsible adults, proximity to water, and designated areas.
