Swans Attacked: Cruel Acts at Moses Gate Park

A Greater Manchester councillor has raised serious concerns about the welfare of swans at Moses Gate Country Park, reporting that the birds are subjected to cruel treatment. Councillor Sue Haworth stated that swans have been taunted and hit with sticks, with one swan found dead and showing neck injuries. Volunteers at the park have also reported that approximately 25 swan eggs have gone missing this year, with the incidents believed to be the work of park visitors.

Compounding the abuse, residents and volunteers have observed "disgusting foods" like doner kebabs and chicken bones being left for the swans, which can be harmful or fatal to the wildlife. This issue was discussed during a council meeting where councillors debated adopting an animal welfare charter to improve the protection of animals. Councillor Haworth also highlighted evidence of anti-social behaviour and crime in the park, including vandalism and graffiti.
