Sultanpur National Park will reopen to the public on October 1, concluding its annual three-month closure. The wildlife department is offering visitors seven days of free entry to celebrate the reopening. This renowned wetland, spanning 142 hectares, is a vital habitat for numerous resident and migratory bird species.
During the closure from June 1 to September 30, essential maintenance and habitat improvement work was completed. This included desilting water bodies and enhancing visitor facilities. The park has also integrated approximately 30 AI-enabled cameras to monitor bird populations, detect rare species, and identify environmental threats in real-time.
New signages have been installed, and water bodies are being deepened to better accommodate species like flamingos. The park currently hosts around 6,000 birds, representing 30 water bird species, and is a critical resting and feeding ground for migratory birds. An area up to 5km around the park was declared an eco-sensitive zone in June 2021, with construction restricted within 300m.
