- UPSC Essentials quiz helps aspirants revise Environment and Geography topics
In September 2025, an expert panel of the Union Environment Ministry has approved environmental permission for the 2,220 MW Oju hydropower project proposed on the Subansiri River in Taksing, close to the Chinese border. This project is at the top of a line of hydroelectric projects planned for the Subansiri basin and will be the largest in terms of permitted capacity.
Meanwhile, Achanakmar Tiger Reserve (ATR) in Chhattisgarh has seen a remarkable turnaround in its tiger population. In 2018, a tigress named Jhumri traversed the reserve, and since then, the tiger count has increased from 5 to 18 - 10 adults and 8 cubs. Officials attribute this growth to conservation efforts like increased patrolling, monitoring, and creating sufficient water sources and grasslands for the animals.
To help UPSC CSE 2026 aspirants, UPSC Essentials has launched a series of subject-wise quizzes. The latest quiz focuses on Environment and Geography, allowing candidates to assess their progress and revise important topics from the static part of the syllabus.
