A University of Brighton student is breathing new life into abandoned festival tents by transforming them into a sustainable fashion collection. Tilly Lawless, a product design student, has launched a graduate project named Bâche, which repurposes tent fabric left behind at major music festivals.
This initiative tackles a significant environmental issue, as an estimated 250,000 tents are abandoned at UK festivals each summer, contributing approximately 900 tonnes of waste to landfills. Lawless aims to challenge conventional views on discarded materials.
Through Bâche, Lawless seeks to demonstrate that sustainability and desirability can be integrated within fashion. Her project re-evaluates waste, positioning abandoned tent materials not as an endpoint but as a valuable resource for creating new, covetable items.
