- The land will become public green space with riverside walks.
- £1.8m allocated over three years for district biodiversity.

Mid Suffolk District Council has secured almost eight acres of land in Stowmarket, designated for preservation as a riverside haven for nature and wildlife. The acquired land, situated between Takers Lane and the River Rat near Pikes Meadow, will be developed into public green space.
This initiative aims to protect the area from future development and establish new riverside walks. These paths will enhance connectivity between Combs Ford and Gipping Way, providing the local community with improved access to nature.
The council, in collaboration with Stowmarket Town Council, plans to undertake essential tree work, litter clearance, and ecological surveys. These actions are crucial for the immediate conservation and enhancement of the site's natural habitat.
This land purchase aligns with the council's ongoing commitment to biodiversity, which includes a £1.8 million allocation over three years for various environmental projects. The fund supports community-led initiatives and river catchment restoration efforts across the district.
