Prayagraj is set to gain a modern leisure space with the upcoming construction of a 40,000 sq metre solar-powered public plaza along the Yamuna riverbank in Arail. This eco-friendly initiative, costing Rs 18.40 crore, is being implemented by Construction and Design Services (C&DS) and is scheduled for completion within one year.
The plaza will incorporate sustainable features such as sports courts, a rain garden, and a Miyawaki park to enhance greenery. Its 100% solar-powered energy system, EV charging station, and Wi-Fi connectivity will make it a digitally accessible public space. A food zone will also feature stalls for local artisans selling Rudraksha garlands and handicrafts.
This project, approved by the Uttar Pradesh urban development department last year, aims to boost tourism and provide a vibrant gathering spot for residents and visitors. It parallels other enhancements in Prayagraj, like the planned decorative lighting and beautification of the historic All Saints' Cathedral, highlighting the city's commitment to developing public spaces and heritage sites.
