Six new CCTV cameras have been deployed in and around Slough as part of an enhanced effort to catch individuals involved in fly-tipping. These cameras add to the three already in operation and can be relocated to areas with persistent illegal dumping. Slough Borough Council highlighted that footage from their year-old campaign, utilizing CCTV and ANPR technology, has been crucial.
The government recently announced a substantial increase in penalties, raising the maximum fine for waste criminals by 400% to £5,000, up from £1,000. Additionally, the maximum fine for street littering has been raised to £750. This crackdown targets both individuals dumping household waste and organized groups engaging in systematic illegal disposal.
The council reiterated that the household waste recycling centers in Chalvey, Burnham, and Langley are free for most domestic waste. Licensed waste carriers are also available for rubbish removal. Council member Zafar Satti stated there is no justification for fly-tipping, regardless of proximity to bins or access to vehicles.
