A series of powerful winter storms is set to impact the Sierra Nevada region, with forecasts warning of extreme weather conditions. Between February 16 and an estimated two-week period, up to 120 inches of snow could fall in the high-elevation areas of California and Nevada.
These storms are also expected to bring hurricane-force wind gusts reaching between 65 and 80 mph, potentially causing damage to structures and widespread power outages. The National Weather Service has classified these winds as Category 1 hurricane-force.
While major urban centers are not directly in the storm's path, numerous ski towns within the Sierra Nevada are anticipated to receive substantial snowfall. These destinations, popular with tourists year-round, are expected to attract visitors seeking winter sports once the severe weather has passed.
