Summary

- Concerns include traffic, infrastructure strain, and flood risks.
- Parish council questions the necessity of 128 new homes.

A proposal to construct 128 new homes in the Shropshire village of Shawbury is poised for approval, even with significant local opposition. A council planning committee is set to review the plans, with officers recommending approval. The benefits, notably the inclusion of new affordable housing, are being weighed against resident concerns.
Local councillor Alison Williams highlighted major objections. These centered on the proposed use of an existing narrow estate road and roundabout for accessing the A53. Residents also expressed worries about the strain on school and medical facilities, alongside potential flood risks emanating from nearby streams.
Shawbury Parish Council has echoed these doubts, questioning the actual need for 128 additional homes in the village. This current proposal is considerably larger than a previous development plan for the same area, which had envisioned only 80 homes.
