Park Dam Safety Work Closes Key Path
28 Jun
Summary
- A section of Shipley Country Park will close for four months.
- Safety work will stabilize the dam at Osborne's Pond.
- The Shipley Lane bridleway will be closed from July 6.

Access to a part of Shipley Country Park will be restricted for four months due to essential safety work on the dam at Osborne's Pond. Derbyshire County Council has announced that the Shipley Lane bridleway, where it crosses the dam near the Roper Avenue entrance, will be closed starting July 6.
This closure is necessary to undertake a project aimed at stabilizing the dam. The work involves reducing the weir's height to decrease water volume and reshaping the dam's downstream slope. Other footpaths and bridleways surrounding the pond will remain accessible to the public.
The stabilization effort is projected to conclude by the end of November. Derbyshire County Council emphasized its legal responsibility to ensure the pond's safety, noting that undertaking such work during winter months would be neither feasible nor safe. Measures will be implemented to protect local wildlife during the construction period.
