- Local stream visibly polluted with sanitary waste and baby wipes.
- Residents report an offensive odor akin to flushing toilets.
- Yorkshire Water cites incorrect plumbing in nearby properties.

A cherished green space in Sheffield is suffering from severe pollution, with residents reporting a local stream filled with sanitary waste and thousands of baby wipes. The Sheffield Lane Dike, located in the Tongue Gutter wildlife site, is managed by Yorkshire Water.
Local resident Mandy Beer described an "awful smell" emanating from the water, likening it to flushing toilets and emptying washing machines. She noted a significant increase in waste over the past five years, impacting the area she played in as a child.
In response, a Yorkshire Water spokesperson confirmed that their teams have identified properties with incorrect plumbing. Bathrooms, washing machines, and sinks from these homes have been mistakenly connected to the surface water sewer. The company is contacting affected residents to rectify the situation.
