Community Rallies After Manor Fields Park Blaze
21 Aug
Summary
- A fire in August left a third of Sheffield's Manor Fields Park scorched.
- The blaze damaged a wildflower meadow designed by horticulturalist Nigel Dunnett.
- Two-thirds of the park remains unaffected and is in good condition.

A community clean-up effort has been initiated at Sheffield's Manor Fields Park after a destructive fire. The blaze, which occurred on August 13, resulted in approximately one-third of the 24-hectare park being severely damaged and left barren.
The fire particularly impacted a wildflower meadow, a feature originally designed by the esteemed horticulturalist Nigel Dunnett. Dunnett, a professor at the University of Sheffield, was a highly influential figure in contemporary landscape design who passed away earlier this year.
Despite the damage, the outlook for the park is not entirely bleak. Roz Davies, chief executive of Green Estate, the social enterprise managing the park, expressed optimism that most of the grassland would recover quickly. She highlighted that while one-third of the park sustained damage, the remaining two-thirds are still in excellent condition.
