22 Jan
Summary
- 10-turbine Lorg wind farm approved by Scottish government.
- Turbines will reach a maximum height of 650ft and operate for 35 years.
- Plans downsized from 15 turbines due to environmental concerns.

The Scottish government has granted approval for the revised plans of the Lorg wind farm, featuring 10 turbines. This development is situated between Carsphairn and Sanquhar and will be visible from parts of the Southern Upland Way walking route.
The approved turbines will have a maximum height of 650ft and an operational lifespan of 35 years. The plans were downsized from an earlier proposal of 15 turbines following concerns about environmental impact. The development is located approximately three miles from the Galloway Hills and Thornhill Uplands Regional Scenic Areas.
While Dumfries and Galloway Council noted localized landscape and visual effects, they deemed them acceptable. NatureScot and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency did not object but recommended conditions to protect wildlife and habitats. Concerns were raised by RSPB Scotland regarding black grouse and by Tynron Community Council over visual impacts and tourism.
