South Coast Railway (SCoR) marked the conclusion of its 'Swachhata Hi Seva 2026' fortnight on October 2nd, celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti, with a significant plantation drive. This extensive campaign, spanning from September 17th to October 2nd, centered on crucial themes including cleanliness, effective waste segregation, recycling initiatives, water conservation, and the ambitious goal of eliminating single-use plastics.
The railway zone reported an impressive mobilization, with over 40,000 personnel actively engaging in a variety of activities. These included widespread cleanliness drives, informative awareness rallies, and dedicated ecological conservation efforts across all SCoR operational areas.
A key highlight of the campaign was the extensive greening initiative, resulting in the planting of over 50,000 saplings. These were strategically planted at railway colonies, stations, workshops, and office complexes, significantly enhancing the green cover.
General Manager Sandeep Mathur, alongside senior officials, led the main plantation drive at the under-construction zonal headquarters site in Mudasarlova. During the event, he administered the Swachhata pledge, strongly urging all staff members to commit to dedicating at least one hour daily towards maintaining cleanliness and actively participating in environmental conservation activities.
