SC to Hear Noida's Rs 150 Cr Canal Pollution Plea
17 Feb
Summary
- Supreme Court hears plea against NGT's Rs 150 crore fine.
- Noida Authority and Delhi Jal Board challenge the compensation.
- STP compliance is uneven, with five out of eight non-compliant.

The Supreme Court will hear arguments on February 17, 2026, regarding a plea by the Noida Authority and Delhi Jal Board (DJB) challenging a Rs 150 crore environmental compensation. This fine was imposed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) due to alleged sewage discharge into the Kondli irrigation canal.
The NGT's August 2022 judgment ordered Noida Authority to pay Rs 100 crore and DJB Rs 50 crore. While the apex court stayed the directive, it mandated Noida to ensure functional Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) to stop untreated water from entering the canal.
