The state cabinet has approved the transfer of six hectares of gram sabha land to the tourism department for the development of visitor facilities at Saman Bird Sanctuary in Mainpuri. This initiative is set to enhance the internationally recognized wetland's appeal to birdwatchers, photographers, and nature tourists.
The transferred land, located in Saman village, Kisni tehsil, will be used to create planned tourism infrastructure. The development prioritizes bird safety and habitat conservation, aligning with the sanctuary's ecological importance. This project is expected to boost eco-tourism in Uttar Pradesh, a state recognized for its rich natural heritage.
Saman Bird Sanctuary, notified in 1990, spans approximately 5.3 sq km and gained Ramsar recognition in 2019. It is a key location for spotting the state bird, the sarus crane, and hosts various other species like common teal and pelicans. The land transfer, free of cost, will not burden the state government financially.
This development complements Mainpuri's Sarus Tourism Circuit, a conservation tourism initiative. Tourism minister Jaiveer Singh highlighted the potential for increased tourism, job creation, and the promotion of Uttar Pradesh's natural assets.
