Sacramento Zoo reported the passing of Rajasi, a cherished 15-year-old clouded leopard, on August 21, 2026. Rajasi had been experiencing gastrointestinal problems and was diagnosed with an inflammatory condition and high blood pressure in July. While initial treatments showed promise, his condition deteriorated rapidly overnight, leading to his death.
Rajasi was a beloved figure at the zoo, known for his unique personality and interactions with his caretakers. His passing follows closely behind that of his female partner, Serai, who was euthanized in October 2025 at age 14 due to persistent health issues, including a leg injury.
Clouded leopards, native to South and Southeast Asia, are classified as vulnerable. Their average lifespan in captivity is 11 to 15 years. The exact cause of Rajasi's death will be determined by the University of California, Davis Weill School of Veterinary Medicine.
