16 Sep
Summary
- RSPCA proposes a new campus near Pennington Flash.
- The facility aims to be a 'one-stop shop' for animal rescue.
- Up to 150 jobs could be created at the proposed Mossley Hall site.
The RSPCA has taken a significant step towards establishing a new regional animal welfare and rehabilitation campus. This facility, proposed for farmland adjacent to Pennington Flash in Wigan, is designed to serve as an integrated 'one-stop shop' for animals requiring rescue and specialized care.
The charity has submitted an environmental impact assessment report as part of its planning process. This report outlines the vision for an "integrated animal welfare, veterinary, rehabilitation and education campus" on the Mossley Hall site. The development is slated to include extensive clinical veterinary and behavioral facilities, alongside rehabilitation, training, and rehoming provisions.
With the potential to create between 120 and 150 jobs, the campus aims to be a major local employer. The proposed site, spanning 15 hectares, will accommodate various buildings including veterinary services, cattery blocks, and a small animal facility. Security fencing and external paddocks will ensure animal safety, while up to 195 parking spaces are planned.
