Tigers Return to Ludhiana Zoo Safari
7 May
Summary
- Ludhiana Zoo welcomed a male and female Royal Bengal tiger.
- The tigers were transferred from Nagpur's Balasaheb Thackeray Zoo.
- The Tiger Safari closed in December 2024 due to a tiger's death.

The Ludhiana Zoo's big cat enclosure is once again vibrant with the arrival of a Royal Bengal tiger pair. Officials confirmed that a male named Badal and a female named Bijli were successfully transferred from Nagpur's Balasaheb Thackeray Gorewada International Zoological Park.
This significant acquisition aims to re-establish the popular Tiger Safari, which ceased operations in December 2024. The closure followed the death of Aman, the zoo's previous lone tiger, due to age-related issues. The zoo has experienced a series of losses in recent years, with several tigers succumbing to age and illness, impacting its primary attraction.
The reintroduction of tigers is anticipated to enhance the visitor experience and promote wildlife conservation awareness. Beyond tigers, the zoo maintains a variety of animals, including leopards, deer, and numerous bird species, reflecting a commitment to diverse wildlife preservation and educational outreach.
