Solar Exemptions: Rooftop Power Gets Subsidy-Free Boost
9 Jun
Summary
- Rooftop solar projects not seeking central subsidy are exempt from ALMM List-II.
- Exemption for these projects is valid until March 31, 2027.
- Higher-wattage solar PV module models can bypass factory inspections.

Residential rooftop solar projects that do not seek central financial assistance will continue to be exempt from the ALMM List-II requirements until March 31, 2027. This relaxation applies to systems under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana commissioned via net metering, simplifying processes for consumers. Applications must be made through the PM Surya Ghar national portal to qualify for this exemption.
In a separate move, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has introduced a waiver for factory inspections for higher-wattage solar PV module models. Modules with an output up to 3 percent above the highest enlisted wattage can be added to the ALMM without a physical inspection, provided the manufacturing setup remains unchanged. This aims to streamline the enlistment of modules benefiting from improved cell efficiency, without increasing a facility's registered manufacturing capacity.
