Two young rhinos, Chandra and Kanai, have arrived at Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve for a crucial acclimatization period. They will reside in a pre-release enclosure, adhering to conservation translocation protocols before their final release into the wild. This operation was conducted under the Wildlife (Protection) Act with necessary permissions and expert oversight from veterinarians and senior forest officials.
The Kaziranga Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC), a collaborative effort by the Assam forest department, Wildlife Trust of India, and the International Fund for Animal Welfare, has a significant track record. Since its establishment in 2002, CWRC has rescued and rehabilitated over 7,397 animals from 357 species, achieving a remarkable release success rate of nearly 65% for these animals.
